We were so fortunate to have Erin present for the birth of our daughter Camilla. She really took her time to get to know both me and my husband in the months leading up to the big day. She listened to all of my ideas, preconceived notions, and even my crazy pregnancy dreams about labor. As a first time mom, I really had no idea what to expect and for some reason, people out in the ‘real world’ like to try to scare you by sharing horrible birth stories. I knew there had to be another way and I truly believe that Erin’s support and guidance were some of the main reasons why I was able to stay so calm and focused on the task at hand during my labor. Another huge benefit was that Erin had been to the hospital many times before, so she knew where things were in the room, she knew some of the nurses, and some of the more practical details of our labor and delivery in the hospital. Erin was very accommodating and helped us all to feel comfortable with the whole experience. I know that there are a lot of factors that go into this, but I had a wonderful, natural, drug free birth experience. She encouraged and comforted me when I needed it and talked to me straight when I asked her to as well. My husband felt so much more comfortable and empowered because she was there to guide him and help him to know what to do. I would recommend working with the SEM Community Doulas to everyone! I honestly can’t wait to get to call them up again for our next baby!
