Prenatal/Postpartum Consultations

SEM Community Doulas understand that every woman has her own vision of the perfect birth, and not every vision includes a doula. If your perfect birth involves only you and your partner but you'd like the knowledge and insight of a doula, then a prenatal and birth plan consultation is a great option for you. 
During a prental and birth plan consultation, you'll spend about 90 minutes with at least one of the SEM Community Doulas. 
During that time,
 your doulas will help you discover your options
 so that you can have the best birth possible for you. 
Please bring all your questions and concerns. You can spend our time together talking about anything you'd like! And if you don't know what you don't know, SEM Community Doulas are happy to lead the conversation too.

​Some ideas of things you might want to talk about include:
  • Ways to prepare your body for birth and natural and medical induction methods
  • Standard policies at the hospital where you're giving birth 
  • The benefits and risks of specific interventions
  • Feedback on your written birth preferences/birth plan
  • Natural and medical pain management options 
  • Planning for the postpartum time
  • Local resources for breastfeeding support, photographers, parenting groups, prenatal/postpartum yoga, and many others!

After your meeting, one of your doulas will send you a follow up email to check in and see if you have any more questions. And of course, they'd LOVE to hear when your little one arrives!

Investment: $100

If after meeting SEM Community Doulas, you decide that they'd be a great addition to your birthing team, the payment from your prenatal and birth plan consultation can be applied toward any birth doula package deposit. 
SEM Community Doulas also offer consultations for: 
  • Preparing for an induction
  • ​Planning a scheduled cesarean birth
  • Preparing for bringing your baby home
  • Introducing siblings to your new baby
